Find the best place for you to concentrate on work. As a freelancer, you’ll be able to tailor when you work to your preference. Set up a dedicated workspace,  somewhere quiet where you can get the most amount of work done.

• Consider using a spare room. Maybe even set up an entire office.
• Don’t skimp on supplies. Ensure that you have everything you need: computer/laptop, notepad and lots of natural light.
• Don’t be confined just to the house, though. Feel free to find a quiet cafe of some kind or make use of your garden space.

Freelance writing isn’t something you can pick up and put down at your leisure. You will be working. While you are your own employer, it is essential to keep a routine. • Never be afraid of negotiating for a possibly higher rate than the initial price.

Freelancers cite the hardest part is not knowing when payment is due. In light of this, let your client know that you will expect payment upfront if they refuse you can ask for part of the fee as a retainer.

 

Always budget for expenses. Make sure you keep track of the money you make from writing. Take into account the amount you make from each job, if you’re not earning enough one month, try to gather more jobs next month.

• Always set aside enough to pay your taxes. You will be working for yourself, and you won’t be withholding your wages.
